Q. Who owns and manages the Flats at WSU?
A. The Flats at WSU are being built and will be owned by a private developer, similar to other properties on the Innovation Campus. No WSU student fee monies will be used to support this endeavor. The only students paying are the students who will live there.
Q. What is the role of WSU Housing and Residence Life?
A. WSU’s Housing and Residence Life office has been contracted to help manage and operate the complex and to help streamline the application process for students.
Q. How were the rates determined?
A. The rates were determined by the developer based on that company’s reading of the local market and a study of comparable housing arrangements at other universities. Wichita State University does not have influence over rates for this property.
Q. Is the complex open to non-students?
A. Yes. The complex is open to anyone who might want to live in the campus environment, including WSU faculty and employees of Innovation Campus partner companies.
Q. How do I find a roommate for the Flats at WSU?
A. All students will be able to search for and select roommates through their housing portal once they have paid their $100 application fee and $900 deposit. Students will enter profile questions and be able to search for other roommates with similar characteristics.
Q. Does my scholarship for housing cover the Flats at WSU?
A. Maybe. Because the complex is not university-owned, any scholarships that designate that a student must live on campus cannot be applied to The Flats at WSU. Contact the WSU Office of Financial Aid at 316-978-3430 or email@example.com if you are unsure about whether you qualify.
Q. Are charges put on a student’s WSU account?
A. No. Individuals will only be able to see all charges related to their occupancy at the Flats at WSU in the same portal as the application and room selection.
Q. Do the apartments include cable?
A. No. While flatscreen TVs are included with each apartment, The Flats at WSU has decided to cut the cord. There is great wifi throughout the complex, which will allow you to build a custom online entertainment package that meets your needs. In addition, televisions in the clubhouse area will be equipped with cable.
Q. What is the alcohol policy?
A. Students over 21 will be allowed to consume alcohol in the privacy of their own apartment (as long as no one under 21 is present). No alcohol can be consumed in public areas.
Q. Are pets allowed?
A. No. The complex doesn’t allow pets, with the exception of fish (maximum 10 gallon aquarium).
Q. What is the length of the lease?
A. Leases run for 11 1/2 months (August 1, 2017 – July 15, 2018.)
Q. Do I have to purchase a parking space?
A. No. Reserved parking spaces, whether surface or in the underground garage, are optional. However, because the WSU campus is a permit-only parking environment on weekdays when school is in session, you would need to purchase a WSU parking ePermit to park anywhere near the complex for much of the year. Q. Can I tour the facility?
A. Yes! Beginning Monday, March 20, The Flats at WSU will offer hardhat tours from 2-5 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays. Learn more about touring The Flats.
